Full Description

On Robert Wake's 1839 map of Southwold the property was known as Tamarisk Villa and was owned by Robert Wake. It appears that the now principal range of the building had not yet been constructed and in it's place was were very large gardens. The site changed hands in 1866 and by 1878 it's name had been changed to The Elms and it was part of an extensive property portfolio known as The Elms Estate. The princial range had been built by 1884, along with the single-storey extension and connected winter garden along the west side of the front garden. In 1953 the building was subdivided into three dwellings and the western hald of the large plot was sold off. The building was listed in 1971. Red brick with gault-brick front; shallow pitched hipped roofs, slate at front, black-glazed pantiles at rear; four panelled stacks of brick, irregularly disposed (S1).
