Description
The monument includes a moated site situated on level ground some 200m south west of Bell Farm. The moat, which is seasonally wet and ranges in width from 10m to 15m, is open to a depth of up to 2m and surrounds a small, sub- rectangular central platform raised up to 0.4m above the ground level to the south, east and north west of the moat and measuring approximately 21m south west-north east by 20m north west-south east. At the south west corner of the moat there is a short projection which probably represents the end of an outlet channel. A dished causeway across the eastern arm of the moat, which now provides access to the central platform, is not an original feature. A medieval lead seal and a 13th century seal matrix found in the vicinity of the moat provide evidence for the high, probably manorial status of the site.
A fence around the outer edge of the moat is excluded from the scheduling, although the ground beneath it is included.
