Description
BARKING DARMSDEN
TM 05 SE
2/36 Daisy Farmhouse
- II
Former farmhouse. Late C16 with C19 and C20 alterations. An unusually late
example of a 3-cell open hall house. 1 storey and attics. Timber-framed and
plastered. Slated roof (formerly thatched), with axial and end chimneys of
red brick. Mid C20 small-pane casements and glazed panelled door in cross-
passage position. An unusual example for Suffolk of a clasped-purlin roof
over an open hall, smoke-encrusted and with the original hipped end with
smoke-gablet over the service cell to right (now enclosed by a C20 roof
structure). Inserted back-to-back fireplaces in hall and parlour, and upper
floor over hall are probably of early C17 (the parlour fireplace lintel is
believed to have an incised date on the rear face).
