Description

GISLINGHAM MILL STREET (SOUTH SIDE) TM 0771 6/43 Street Farm House - II House. Mid and late C16 in 2 phases, earlier origins possible; part rebuilt and altered in C20. Timber frame, plastered. Steeply pitched machine tiled roofs. Main range is 4 bays with parlour to left, a 2 bay wing projects forward from left of centre to form a T on plan. 2 storeys and attics. C20 entrance to right of projecting wing, C20 2 and 3-light glazing bar casements. Boxed eaves, slightly lower on main range. Ridge stack with rebuilt capping to left of centre serving parlour. Internal stack on left side of forward wing. Interior: parlour and rooms in forward wing have stop chamfered binding beams and joists, service end to right largely rebuilt, some early studding with eaves level apparently raised, a reused post with a moulded head, arched braces to cambered tie beams, parlour chamber has reverse cranked arched bracing in close studded walls, roll and hollow moulded cross axial binding beam pegged into chamfered principals, square set roll moulded joists. Queen post roof over main range, cambered collars, longitudinal arched braces over parlour, possible smoke bay to centre, rebuilt to right; forward wing has cambered collars and halved principals clasping purlins with cranked windbraces.
