Description

FRAMSDEN ASHFIELD ROAD TM 16 SE 1/25 Potash Farmhouse II Farmhouse, built in two stages: mid/late C16, and early C17. 2 storeys, 3- cell lobby entrance plan since C17. Timber-framed and roughcast. Thatched roof with C19 undulating bargeboards and fascia soffits. An axial C17 chimney of red brick. Mainly C18 and C19 small-pane casements. C19 boarded entrance door. Unmoulded framing exposed internally: the C16 hall and service cells have arch-windbraced studwork. Coupled-rafter roof rebuilt at service cell, and given clasped purlins in C17. The C16 house was probably built with a 2- cell plan, with a timber framed external chimney at the right hand end of the hall. Over both the hall and service rooms extends a 3-bay chamber with arch- braced tie-beams. 2-bay C17 parlour cross-wing to right with on-edge floor joists and windbraced butt-purlin roof.
