Description

LETHERINGHAM THE STREET TM 25 NE2 (West side) 5/87 - Old Hall Farmhouse G.V. II Farmhouse, formerly manorhouse. Mid-late C16, possibly including some structure from an earlier house. Timber framed with some colourwashed C19 Flemish bond brick walling and colourwashed render. Plaintile roof, originally thatched. Two storeys with attic. Road front: projecting wing at near-centre, probably of C19 date, which has a central window with large pane below and 3-lights above. Three-light C19 casement to the first floor. To right of this are 2 bays having an outshut to the ground floor level with a slate roof and brick walling set with 2 cambered-headed 3-light casements. Two similar first floor windows. At left of the wing is brick walling to the ground floor level with a 3-light window with cambered head to right and a cambered-headed garage door at far left. Two 3-light casement windows to the first floor above these. To the ridge at left of centre is a chimney stack with moulded brick bands, the top part rebuilt. Similar stack at right, entirely rebuilt in the C19. Right hand gable end: brick walling at ground floor level, with a cambered-headed 2-light window at right and a 2-light attic window. Rear: projecting gabled wing at right of centre behind which a change in the levels of the ridge is evident. The wing has a 6-light ground floor window and 4-light first floor casement. To left is an outshut with 2 two-light casements and to the first floor another 2-light casement. To right of the wing are further C19 outshuts. Interior: Chamfered end-stopped C16 ceiling beams to the ground floor on wall posts. Further jowled wall posts to the first floor and tie beams, both of which bear mortice holes to receive arched braces now removed. Roof probably of C17 with wind braces. Listing NGR: TM2797758047
