Description
Archaeological monitoring was carried out on land at 55, Fore Street, Framlingham. Monitoring work was carried out at the above site during the excavation of foundations for an extension to the house. A number of features of archaeological interest were recorded during the monitoring work. A large cut feature, possibly a ditch, was recorded which may be the medieval town ditch. A timber structure was revealed within this ditch which may be the supports for a walkway or bridge. One of the posts of this structure was dated by radiocarbon to 1330AD +/_ 30. The ditch was infilled prior to the early 18th century when pits were dug into a thick make-up layer filling the top of the ditch.
