Description
A trial trench evaluation was carried out at the above site in advance of a proposal to construct a grain store. Eight trenches were excavated totalling 213m. The site had seen some ground reduction in the past, as much of it was oddly devoid of any deposit that could be described as conventional topsoil. As little as 0.1m of overburden was observed directly overlying the natural Till. No pre-modern finds or features were encountered. The only observations recorded were a substantial modern pond, some field drains and two areas of compacted chalk surface that were also of 20th century date. No further work was recommended.
