Description
Geoarchaeological investigations were undertaken on the site of a proposed development when geotechnical data revealed the presence of Holocene mineral and organic rich alluvial deposits. Two sequences of borehole core samples were taken for analysis. The results were interpreted as a degraded preserved remnant of a low terrace of the River Orwell, overlain by Holocene alluvium. Although peaty deposits were recorded during preliminary borehole investigations, these were not sampled for laboratory investigation due to serious ground contamination.
