Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on land off Goddard Road, Ipswich on the 24th September 2009. A single trench was excavated along the site of the proposed new salt barn and brine maker, measuring 60m long by 1.8m wide. Although no archaeological finds or features were observed, the presence of a layer of subsoil within the trench allows the possibility that scattered archaeological deposits may have survived on the site. It is therefore suggested that an appropriate mitigation strategy may allow for the monitoring of any major groundworks (footings and foundations), dependant on the precise nature of the planned building.
