Description
Archaeological trial trenching at Washington Square on RAF Mildenhall uncovered
evidence of Roman settlement consisting of a complex of ditches indicative of
settlement. Finds evidence suggest that the occupation continued from the 1st to 4th
centuries although with a possible decline in the 4th century. Later ditches are thought
to be post medieval. The site has been heavily truncated by works associated with the
airfield and lies directly exposed beneath the sub base
