Description
Evaluation was carried out at the Manor House car park alongside the Weymed Centre in Bury St Edmunds prior to the submission of redevelopment plans. Four trenches were excavated sampling all available parts of the site. Archaeological features were found in all of the trenches and those in the eastern side on the eastern half of the site demonstrated a level of stratigraphic complexity reflecting the period of enduring urban habitation. The natural slope of the site had been levelled by building up the eastern side of the site and as a consequence of this the depth to archaeology from current gounf levels varied from 0.5m to c.1.2m (S1).
