Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out at land behind 40 Peckham Street as the first part of a condition on planning application SE/10/0755. The condition includes a cartographic and documentary search alongside the trenching to allow an informed assessment of the archaeological potential of the site. The planning application is for the building of houses and garages. Three trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.6-1.4m. The evaluation uncovered a clay building platform with a series of ovens and several pits that were of medieval date (S1).
