Site Event/Activity record ESF22356 - Monitoring, 8 The Highlands, Exning, Suffolk

PROJECT DETAILS n May 2014, Archaeological Solutions Ltd (AS) carried out a programme of continuous archaeological monitoring and recording of groundworks associated with the construction of a new dwelling, with garage and access on land at 8 The Highlands, Exning, Suffolk CB8 7NT (NGR TL 6265 6590). The works were required to comply with a planning condition attached to planning approval for the development (Forest Heath District Council ref: F/2012/0566/OUT). An Anglo-Saxon cemetery is indicated in the vicinity of the site by the presence of two inhumations and a number of grave goods (EXG 005, 028). A putative hilltop enclosure ditch containing pottery of regional importance has been identified 60m to the south (EXG 082). Isolated Iron Age, Roman and medieval finds were recovered from a buried soil horizon on the site (EXG 090). However, subsequent investigations around the site found nothing further relating to the enclosure or cemetery. In the event the monitoring revealed no archaeological features or finds.
