Description
Trial trench evaluation was conducted in advance of residential development. Two trial trenches were excavated up to 0.73m in the area of a quarry and 0.23m in the northern part of trench 1. No archaeological features or finds were present. A large depression identified as a probable post-medieval or modern quarry pit covered much of the site. It is likely that the quarrying occurred in the late 1960s to early 1970s. The presence of an intact subsoil at the northern end of trench 1 and located outside of the quarry pit, suggests that the rest of the site may retain some archaeological potential, however this lies outside of the current proposed development area (S1).
