Description

Archaeological evaluation on a 1.4ha of green-field land at 22 Falkenham Road, Kirton, Suffolk prior to residential development. The stratighraphy comprised a topsoil and subsoil over the natural. The underlying solid geology comprises a sedimentary rock formed from clay and silt. The overlying superficial geology consists of glaciolacustrine deposits; deposits of clay and silt laid down in ice age conditions during the Quaternary period. Nine trenches were mechanically excavated, each measuring 1.8m x 30m. Archaeological remains were encountered in trenches 1, 3 and 4.
