Site Event/Activity record ESF23687 - Metal Detecting Survey - Pipps Ford, Coddenham

A metal detecting survey was carried out on land at Pipps Ford, Coddenham within the area of Scheduled Ancient Monument (SAM No. 89) prior to the construction of a slab-floored poultry shed. The metal detection produced a total of 37 small finds, 70% of which were of Roman date spanning the late 1st century to the mid 4th century. The most closely datable finds were 18 coins, 10 of which were of mid 2nd to early 3rd century in date. A notable find was a small copper alloy cockerel, probably a votive statuette (S1).
