Description

Single evalaution trench (10m by 1.5m) prior to a residential development identifed no significant archaeological feature or finds. it was not possible to expose the natural subsoil at the extreme northern end due to the presence of a modern service run. The natural subsoil comprised a pale yellow sand which lay at a depth of 1.5m. It lay beneath an overburden that consisted of three main deposits; a grey dende brown silty sand 0.25cm which was overlain by a 0.8m layer of reddy-brown silty sand. This contained some 19th century brick and tile fragments. This was overlain by a series of layers of sand, ballast, concrete and tarmac to formt he car park subase and surface.
