Description
An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed redevelopment of the land. A total of 10 trenches, nine of which measured 30m by 1.8m and one 10m by 1.8m were excavated across the site. Some of the trenches targeted remains identified by the previous geophysical survey. The evaluation represented a 3.5% sample of the proposed development area. The evaluation revealed Roman features in two areas. The east side of the site had a considerable depth of colluvial material in the valley of a relict river course which could potentially mask archaeological features, although the material from trenches here suggest limited activity at best.
