Description

An archaeological evaluation was conducted by trial trenching on land west of Thorney Green Road, Stowupland. The evaluation was carried out in relation to a proposed housing-led development and was the 2nd phase of archaeological fieldwork on the site, having been preceded by a geophysical survey. 10 evaluation trenches were excavated and varied between 0.4m-0.94m deep. The trenches were targeted on the results of the geophysical survey. Two bulk samples were taken from ditch fills for environmental assessment. The site was on gently sloping land in an area of mostly heavy clay soils derived from the underlying Loewstoft Till . Evaluation revealed a straightforward seaquence of modern ploughsoil over geological strata, with no evidence for natural soil profiles(S1).
