Description

Evaluation was carried out in advance of development. Three trenches were excavated. There was some disturbance from modern service pipes and overlying made ground layers, however for the most part the geological horizon appeared to remain intact. The natural geological service was yellow sands and gravels overlain by a thick layer of made ground/ subsoil which consisted mid-brown friable silty sandy clay containing occasional flint. The overlying made ground measured 0.49m tick and consisted of dark grey friable sandy clay, containing occasional flint and modern brick. This layer was most likely used to build up the ground level for the car park. It was overlain by a layer of made ground which consisted of a layer of orange sandy gravels overlain by a lawyer of grey sandy gravels measuring 0.13m. This formed the compact surface of the exisiting car park (S1).
