Description

Trial trench evaluation was carried out prior to the construction of two dwellings. Two trenches were excavated which encountered features and finds relating to the post-medieval and modern periods. The deposit model was inconsistent across the site with varying compositions of the nautral geology in both trenches. Made ground layer was dark brown black, loose, sandy silty clay with infrequent inclusions of sub-angular flint stones and was present to a max depth of 0.33m. Beneath was a layer of subsoil which consisted of a light grey brown, loose sandy silt, with infrequent inclusions of sub-angular flint stones and was present to a max depth of 1.13m. The natural geology in trench 1 was a grey white, compact chalk with frequent degraded chalk fragments on its surface. The natural in trench 2 consisted of a light yellow orange, loose, sand (S1).
