Description
An archaeological evaluation by trial trenching was conducted ahead of an application for planning permission to construct two new poultry barns and replace five existing barns. 15 trenches were excavated within the footprint of the proposed development. The results were negatice indicating that there is a high probibility that much of the site had been truncated during the construction of the present buildings in the early 1970s. The trenches were c. 0.30-0.40m deep and the topsoil/grassed area was 0.05m-0.40m thick. Two trenches showed that brick rubble liest directly above natural clays suggesting that a certain amount of earthmoving on the site had taken place in the past. No archaeological features or deposits were observed and no finds collected (S1).
