Description
Excavation and subsequent watching brief was carried out and revealed medieval to post medieval occupation. Planning permission was granted for a c0.43ha site to demolish a redundant former council office block to the rear to Tingoe House and build an assisted living retirement complex. A DBA was conducted in 2008 and a two phased evaluation was undertaken in 2011 and monitoring of test pits. Two main phases of excavation followed. The combined areas formed a rough L-shape within the footprint of one of the main block of buildings. The total excavation area was c.960sqm with additional contingency areas which were subsequently monitored while groundworks were undertaken to the east, noth and west of the excavation areas (S1).
