Description

An archaeological evaluation at Land at 1 Lower Farm Cottage, Barham revealed undated features. Four trenches were excavated; one measuring 20.00m x 1.80m, one measuring 16.00m x 1.80m, and two measuring 10.00m x 1.80m. The trenches revealed a layer of recently redeposited material with a thickness of 0.30-0.45m across the site comprising a mix of soil, clay, and brick and tile fragments of 20th century date laid down to level the site. Below this redeposited material was a buried former topsoil of 0.15-0.25m depth overlaying a subsoil of 0.20-0.70m depth. The overal depth of the trenches was 0.70m-1.35m with natural glaciofluvial geology present at the base of the trenches. (S1)
