Description
Twenty-four evaluation trenches were excavated across the 2.6ha site, some targeted on plotted cropmarks identified from air photographic analysis. The deposit sequence recorded across most of the site consisted of topsoil and subsoil overlying natural deposits. A 0.25m to 0.43m thickness of topsoil, typically around 0.30m to 0.35m thick, overlay 0.04m to 0.26m of subsoil, more
typically around 0.10m to 0.18m thick. In four trenches subsoil was absent and here topsoil directly overlay natural deposits.
