Description
Evaluation trenching for a 9 dwelling development on the eastern side of this much expanded village revealed a substantial depth of subsoil across the site. The upper 600mm to 700mm of subsoil contained later Post medieval tile and brick fragments. Therefore two smaller test pits were opened in each of the four trenches and this exposed a lower deposit of clean subsoil to an overall depth of 2000mm and the natural glaciofluvial deposit was not seen. This site could be over a quarry pit or perhaps a large post-glacial depression that has silted up over the years.
