Deadman's Grave - Barrow?
C16: Apparently referred to as `Deadman's Grave' and `Deadman's Lands' in a case before the court of Augmentation in C16 (S2)(R1)(R2).
C19: Described by Prigg as "a little hillock in the middle of a trackway ... ". Cites legend of man and horse buried in one grave beneath the mound. Prigg made "a slight excavation in the mound ... but, so far, I found nothing of a sepulchral character" (S1).
1962: "A vague hummocky mound, apparently composed of sand ... measures approximately 6.0m in diameter and 0.5m in height ... beside an old road" (S2).
1976: In grassy heathland - the top of the mound is bare sand and there is evidence of rabbit around it. Height circa 0.39m, diameter circa 9.0m (S3)(S4).
1977: A vague elongated (note above visits do not mention elongation!) mound ... measures approximately 13m SW to NE by 8m transversely by 0.5m high (S2).
