Full Description
Clamp type kiln produding Hollesley type ware next to Butley-Chillesford road. "Large amount of pottery (?kiln, 8ft x 4ft 6in, ploughed up 10/6/86). Clay, which is not naturally found on the field, was found at the edge of the heat blackened soil. The black soil ranged from about 15in to 23in deep. Natural sand found at that depth had been heated until it had turned into an orangy type colour". Also 17 sherds Med coarseware (C13/C14) from rest of field. No metal objects found (S1).
