Full Description

Pewter or lead medallion, 3.9cm diameter, crudely pierced for suspension. Obv: demi-figure of an admiral to left, wearing a wig and holding a rod of office, worn inscription around the edge: THE BRITISH LIO(N)S...VIV... ADMIRAL VERNON. Rev: seven ships sailing into a harbour with ?forts at each end of the harbour, worn inscription around the edge: W(H)O TOOK PORTO BELLO WITH SIX SHIPS ONLY, & at the base NOV 22 1739. See Wenhaston 004 for a similar medallion. Found with a metal detector (S1). Formerly recorded as IXW Misc.
