Full Description

Large seven storey tower mill dated 1842, built by John Whitmore for Francis Buttrum, the miller. It stood alongside a small tower mill whose site can still be traced. It ceased to work in 1922 and was dismantled by Amos Clarke in 1925. It had four patent sails, four pairs of stones, an ogee cap with wrought iron gallery and fantail. The tower remains, empty of machinery, used as a store (S1). Sails removed circa 1919.
The small tower mill was first mapped in 1825/6 (S2)(S3)(R1). Mills sited at TM 2302 5138 and 2299 5140 (S3).
