Full Description

Two pottery kilns, both double-flued, overlying LIA enclosure ditch excavated in area of proposed quarry. Also part of a later Rom (C2+) enclosure with entrance on the E side. Undated features included posthole groups and small pits (S1). The kiln products include stamped copies of terra nigra bowls, ring and dot bekers, flagons, mortaria, jars etc, probably made within the period AD 50-80 (S2). Other finds include a few coins (Claudius I, Faustina II, Constantine I), two colchester type and three colchester derivative brooches. A group of IA type triangular loom weights were associated with the kilns, probably products and possibly used as kiln furniture (S1).
