Full Description
Elizabethan (?) round theatre, site of. Described in 1577 field book: " 59b Walsham Towne. the sayd Game Place in the tenure of diuers men to the vse and behofe of the towne of Walsham aforesayd is customary ground, holden of the sayd manor of Walsham and a place compassed round with a fayer banke sett with cast vp on a good height and havinge many great trees called populers growynge about the same banke, in the myddest a fayre round place of earth wyth a stone wall about the same to the height of the earth made of purpose for the vse of stage players doth lie betwene the ortyard of the last ........." (S1)(R1). Also described in Supervisio sive Terratorium of 1581 (R2). Said to hold up to a thousand people and to be situated to south of Willow Court in grounds of present Willow House (S2).
