Full Description

Polished flint axe labelled "Hepworth Churchyard Palaeolithic celt found 1889", believed to have been found by sexton digging a grave and given to Mr George Hills. Given by Mrs Katherine Howard, daughter of George Hills. 13. 5cm long x 6.3cm wide x 2.9cm thick. Polished overall, especially the blade which has a glass smooth finish. Butt very chipped and now slightly concave; blade also has several chips including some large ones. Pale grey flint with a thin golden-brown patina. Chamfered sides. 0.32kg (S1). ?Photographed.
