Full Description
Watching brief on NW corner of field in area being stripped for dirty water storage pond. Small area, circa 1.0m across, of burnt clay, surrounded by unburnt clay, noted following stripping of topsoil and hillwash deposits. Also animal bone fragments, oyster shell, burnt flints & pottery:- 1 rim abraded Rom pottery; 2 rim, 1 base & 4 body sherds Med coarseware (C13/C14); 3 body sherds Med glazed ware (?Ipswich Fore St ware C13/C14); 1 body sherd glazed LMed; 1 body sherd LMed coarseware; 1 base sherd PMed. Three daub fragments from hearth retained.
Probably foundation of C13/C14 house with only harth remains surviving (largely destroyed? in earth moving operations). Adjoins lane to SW (S1).
