Full Description

Bridge and serpentine lake.
Brick bridge (listed) across the northern end of an artificially widened stretch of the Black Bourn. This widened stretch also seems to have been given a deliberately serpentine course, probably as C18 garden feature. The bridge appears in a painting of Little Haugh Hall done in the early 1730s by Peter Tillemans (d. 1734) for the owner, Cox Macro (1683-1767)(S1)(S2). For other garden features also probably made for Cox Macro, see NRN 001 & 011.
