Full Description
Spread of charcoal and burnt clay observed when a strip was excavated for a new water main in 1993. Two sherds of unglazed sand-tempered pottery and 3 small fragments of fired daub recovered (S1).
Finds came from the north end of a former 2 acre field (now thrown into a larger field) recorded as Syers Field (owner Abraham Syer) in 1839/40. A cottage (now called Syers Field) occupies the NW corner of this field and was owned by Pleasant Syer in 1839/40 (S2). Holding probably belonged to the Manor of Stanstead Hall. Syers Field forms part of a small row of properties called Cook's Green.
