Full Description

Small enclosure containing a barn marked on the 1839 Tithe Map and named as `Barn & Yards 1 rood' in the 1840 Schedule. Adjoined S side of Jerry's Barn Field (S1). Appears to have served a part of Hardings Tenement (divided in 1627). 1662 admission refers to a `parcel of land with a barn thereon lately built'. Owners included Jeremiah Cooper 1733-47 and Jeremiah Hall 1760-78, hence probably the name Jerry's Barn (S2).
Both the yard and the barn have now gone and the site has been taken into a larger arable field.
Spread of cobbles and PMed brick and tile observed near the road when a strip was excavated across the eastern end of the yard by Anglian Water for a new water main in 1993 (S3).
