Monument record CSA 017 - Soilmarks of possible field system

Please read our .

Summary

Remnants of a possible former field system are visible as soilmarks on aerial photographs on land to the south of Oak Wood, Capel St Andrew. The soilmarks appear to form a rectilinear patten, but it is difficult to be certain that the marks are archaeological since they are only clearly visible on one set of photographs and are showing in a similar way to the agricultural ‘envelope pattern’ marks in the same field.

Remnants of a possible former field system are visible as soilmarks (S1)-(S2) on aerial photographs on land to the south of Oak Wood, Capel St Andrew. The soilmarks appear to form a rectilinear pattern, but it is difficult to be certain that the marks are archaeological since they are only clearly visible on one set of photographs (S1) and are showing in a similar way to the agricultural ‘envelope pattern’ marks in the same field. They have been recorded with a note of caution.
