Full Description
Extract from (R1) discussing (Rom?) cremations etc on the Brettenham Estate - `I also dug out two at the side of ditch between the Park (TL 957 529 - see BTT 009 & 012) and Popple's Farm (BTT 005). W Bull, the tenant of this farm, says he has found a Roman coin in some ....' (S1)(R1). `A diagram of the burials (BTT 009 or these?) shows the shape of a large amphora, with longish and wide neck, i.e. 3ft 4in high by 2ft 6in at the widest part' (S1). The ditch between `The Park' and Popple's Farm runs from TL 9532 5290 to TL 9580 5242 (and beyond). To accord with the description as between the Park and Popple's Farm, the discoveries described probably derived from the NW half of this length of ditch.
