Full Description
Cropmarks of small (circa 40m by 50m) subrectangular field system (some may be tofts)(S1).
Adjoins houses and croft SUT 054.
September 2015. Suffolk Coast and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme.
The field system described above is visible on aerial photographs (S2)-(S9) extending across a larger area than previously recorded. It is possible that the cropmarks recorded here in fact represent a multi-period site, and may include elements of a settlement. Several possible pits or postholes have been recorded centred on TM 314 452, along with a large pit or possible midden area at TM 312 454 close to a concentration of medieval pottery (SUT 054). It is therefore possible that at least some of the features date to the medieval to post medieval period, although it is also possible that at least some of the elements may date to the Iron Age to Roman period, since many of the possible field boundaries are on a similar alignment to the probable Iron Age or Roman settlement recorded to the west (SHER SUT 022).
E. Ford (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 24th September 2015.
