(TL 71986166) Lower Windmill (NAT) (S1)
Lower Mill at Dalham was a large smock mill 50ft high and built in circa 1790. It had four patent sails a 'beehive' cap with a gallery and fantail, and three pairs of stones mounted on a hurst frame on the first floor. It worked until 1926 but at present (1978) there is an extensive programme of restoration in progress. (photos 1971, 1976, 1977, 1978) (S2-S3)
This mill is in excellent condition. See illustration. (S4)
Lower Windmill (name confirmed) as described. The body and cap of themill have been restored, but as yet no sails set. See ground photograph. (S5)
