Summary

"Here at low tide on the shingle banks about twenty five yards out, clay pipes, stems and a variety of pottery fragments have been found, dating from all periods as far back as the twelfth century and possibly even the Roman period" (S1).

Full Description

"Here at low tide on the shingle banks about twenty five yards out, clay pipes, stems and a variety of pottery fragments have been found, dating from all periods as far back as the twelfth century and possibly even the Roman period" (S1).
Suggested (S3) that scatter represents material washed downstream by tidal waters. List of pottery in (S3). For details of some of the clay tobacco pipes see (S4).
Also further sherds pmed pottery found 2001 and undated fragment of human skull (S5) as well as "apparently a lot more pottery and bones (?animal & human) material in surprisingly good condition given tidal erosion. Also very mixed date range so origin uncertain", from extreme low water of River Orwell. S6
