Monument record MRM 053 - Bronze Age to Iron Age finds at Martlesham Heath Airfield

Area of assessment (including barrow & ring ditch sites MRM 011 & 019) - theoretically prior to erection of British Telecom equipment and formation of earth bank but partially following works carried out in breach of planning conditions. Finds include beaker potsherd , worked & burnt flint and other undated pottery and features (S1).

Test pit evaluation in 1995 by Boulter, S., produced no evidence of archaeological activity (S5)

1998: Evaluation trenching across the northern edge and across the southern half of the Satellite Earthstation compound revealed one small area with evidence of Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age activity with two small pits containing sherds of 'Darmsden style' pottery close to the barrow sites that were excavated in 1974. The remainder of the evaluation area contained a few features of unknown date and function, though some could have been caused by animal or tree disturbances (S3).
