Full Description
Two mills (water?) were recorded at Long Melford in the Domesday Survey. `WYFYNDALL MYLL' and leet on River Stour shown and named on Amyce's map of 1580 (S1). Recorded by Wailes (S2) as having a wheel with three pairs of stones. Had been gutted by 1960 (S2).
1959/1960: `This very pleasant brick and slated mill with the mill house adjoining was in the process of having machinery removed at Easter 1959. By Whitsun 1960 all had gone including the external (roofed over) iron 4 o'clock water wheel' (S3). A Myller is recorded amongst the occupiers in Long Melford in 1522 (S4). Mill is shown on Kirby's map of 1736 (S5).
