Full Description

"Tumuli... several years ago, several of these mounds were destroyed on making a new carriage road to the mansion of the late R N Shawe, when considerable quantities of fragments of urns (evidently Roman) were found, and some nearly perfect containing human bones" (R1). Believed to have been found in 1852(?) during construction of carriageway between the lodges (TM 2345 4610) to Kesgrave Hall (TM 2330 4639)(S1), although a number of droveways are shown surrounding the Hall on early maps.
One of the urns is probably the ESax decorated vessel in Ipswich Museum - see KSG Misc.
