Full Description
'In house foundations at the Hermitage on Dennington Road, several human skeletons were found some years ago' (S1). The Hermitage was in existence in 1547, adjoining 6 acres of glebe land called Hermitage Close (S2). Note: there is a reference to an 'Ancarisse (Anchoress) of Framlingham' in 1385 (S2).
NGR for the Hermitage after verbal description by John Ridgard (S3). Location just outside medieval urban area (?).
Site location likely to have actually been on opposite side (W) of road in (S4).
July 2002: mapped HER area revised to include area suggested in (S4).
For possible site of Hermitage - see FML 042 (sf21655) evaluated August 2003.
