Full Description
`Corn Mill' shown and denoted on OS map on NW side of Chad Brook (S1). Not shown or named as mill on OS 1st edition of 1836, Hodskinson's map of 1783 or Bowen's map of 1755. Other maps not checked.
According to (see 'Not to be published on web' tab for finder/s and/or findspot/s) (owner) `a large "L" shaped timber building' was constructed in the grounds as a maltings in the early 1700s. This `burnt down later that century and new building, later used for milling, was built beside Chad Brook'. `Miller and Maltster in 1844 is shown as William Gardner and at least by 1865 replaced by a Mrs Sarah Southgate.... Milling ceased in 1956'. Further details in (S2).
Converted into a water mill in 1923 and ran for 16 years. The wheel and machinery have been removed (S3).
