Full Description
From at least the late C16 Woodbridge was a major shipbuilding centre. In 1618 Browning built a ship of over 500 tons for East India Company (probably at Woodbridge as it had deeper water than Ipswich, where he also had a yard). Between 1650 and 1698 seven men of war of between 381 tons and 663 tons (4th and 5th rate vessels) were built. Further information in (S1).
