Full Description
June 2000: 1st stage monitoring of footings to rear of 4 Quay Street, built on land reclaimed in Med period in Med core of Orford, opposite the Austin Friary. The earliest finds are associated with a layer of silty sand containing briquetage and a charcoal rich sand layer. Probably relates to Rom salt production though the only Rom sherd (grey ware) was found in the layer above. Details in (S1).
